Objectives
The goal of the Petroleum and Geoenergy Engineering study program is to prepare graduates of the follow-up master’s degree – experts ready for employment in the sector of exploration and extraction of oil and natural gas deposits, gas storage in underground reservoirs, and geothermal energy. The geoenergy sector is currently developing rapidly in response to the reduction of fossil fuel extraction and the transition to sustainable energy sources, however, the engineering of underground storage and geothermal energy sources naturally follows the theories, methods and engineering procedures of oil and gas extraction. The Petroleum and Geoenergy Engineering program is thus a logical continuation of the teaching in the Bc. Petroleum Engineering program at the Faculty of Science of Palacký University.
Vocational knowledge and skills
The program focuses on theoretical and practical training of experts in key areas of this transformation: geological and geophysical methods of exploration and engineering of underground reservoirs for storing natural gas and hydrogen, storage (sequestration) of CO2 in underground reservoirs, exploration and use of geothermal energy sources, and use of petroleum engineering technologies for renewable energy sources (secondary and tertiary extraction methods, CO2 injection, recycling technologies).
The program places great emphasis on practical learning. Almost all mandatory subjects include lectures and exercises that will take place in practical classrooms, laboratories, a computer lab, and in the field.
